Is the iPod Mini Actually Available?

It’s been talked about for months now, but have you actually seen one in real life? Chances are that you have not, and that’s because demand is so high Apple has not been able to fill it.

I’m impressed. The Mini costs almost as much as a normal iPod, holds just 4 GB, and is only slightly smaller, yet it is unbelievably popular. I have seen some go for almost $400 on eBay. (Retail is $249.99.)

But the Mini is not supposed to compete with its big brother. It is supposed to be competing with the high-end flash-based players. In this light, it seems like a bargain. Some flash players cost a lot more, but only hold 512 MB. The color options are a nice touch, too!

But do you want to wait weeks or months before you get one?

Or pay upwards of $300 on eBay?

Here’s a possible solution: The Creative Labs Nomad MuVo 2, which also stores 4 GB of music. It’s about the same size as the Mini, but you’re more likely to find this one. It could be out of stock at Amazon.com right now, but it is available used.

If you don’t absolutely have to have an iPod Mini, the MuVo 2 may be for you.

Play MP3s in Your Car For Under $50

Finally there’s an easy way to listen to MP3s in your car. You just need your mp3 player and a Belkin FM transmitter, which can be found at Amazon.com for just under $50.

The Belkin TuneCast II Mobile FM Transmitter connects to the headphone jack on your MP3 player and to your car’s cigarette lighter. Simply tune your car’s radio to a clear station and the Belkin does the rest.
